    Never under-order tiles again

Enter the area you're tiling and the tile size, and this calculator works out exactly how many tiles and boxes to order, with a wastage allowance built in for cuts and breakages.

    How to use it

    • Enter the length and width of the area to be tiled.
    • Enter the tile size in mm, cm or inches.
    • Set a wastage allowance and tiles-per-box to get a box count and total cost.

    The formula

    Tiles Needed = ROUND UP((Area ÷ Tile Area) × (1 + Wastage %)) Boxes Needed = ROUND UP(Tiles Needed ÷ Tiles per Box)

    Worked example

    A 4m × 3m area (12 m²) with 300mm × 300mm tiles (0.09 m² each) and 10% wastage needs 147 tiles. At 10 tiles per box, that's 15 boxes.

Actual material requirements can vary due to waste, installation method, site conditions, manufacturer specifications, local codes and measurement accuracy. Always confirm quantities with your supplier before ordering.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much wastage should I allow for tiling?

10% is standard for a straightforward layout. Increase it to 15–20% for diagonal patterns, small tiles, or a room with lots of corners and cuts.

Does this account for grout width?

No — it's based on tile face size only. For very large format tiles or wide grout lines, allow slightly extra wastage.
